Advancement is the process by which scouts progress from rank to rank, learning new skills as they go. The Scouting advancement program is designed to encourage the natural interests of a youth in a natural way. Each of the ranks and awards in Scouting has its own requirements. As a scout advances through the ranks, requirements are progressively more challenging, matching the increased skills and abilities of the scout as they grow older. Venturing does not have ranks but, rather, the Venturer masters skills and is recognized for that mastery.
There are other awards and recognitions that Scouts and Venturers can earn as they participate in Scouting. From sports and academic beltloops and pins for Cub Scouts to Aquatic and outdoor recognition for Boy Scouts and Venturers. There is a lot to learn and do in Scouting.
