How to plan a Pack program calendar for a Scouting year = new parents will want to know what they and their son will be getting involved in?  http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/cubscouts/leaders/programplanning.aspx

When is Join Scout Night?  This is up to the Pack to decide - the best date is the 2nd Thursday after school starts.

The Pack Membership chair or Join Scout Night chair should contact the school Principal and ask to use the cafeteria facilities of the school, make sure there are no other school programs happening on the night you are requesting.  The JSN program should start at 6:30pm, thus you need to gain access to the cafeteria by 5:45pm.  The JSN meeting takes about an hour and you will need 1/2 hour to clean-up, thus you should be leaving the building around 8:00pm.  While you have the Principal on the phone, ask about 2 other school related topics concerning JSN - Open House and Classroom visitations.

Open House is a great opportunity to give flyers to parents and invite them to join your Pack.  Ask the Principal if you can be at the Open House and pass out flyers?  The Council will provide and print flyers for your JSN recruiting - Send your date to Bob.Norwillo@scouting .org and he will work with you to finalize the flyer content - please give a few dates lead time on flyer requests.

Classroom visitations/rallies usually happen the Monday or Tuesday prior to your Pack's JSN.  You need to ask the Principal to spend 2-3 minutes in each classroom to hand out a flyer to the students.  The keys to a classroom visit are: Wear a sharp Class 'A/Dress' uniform; only spend 2 minutes in the classroom; hand out a flyer to each boy in the classroom; and finally, do not answer questions (you do not have enough time at this event).  A great topic to talk about is the Pinewood Derby, bring a car to show off.  For 1 person to visit a school takes about 3 hours - ask other parent to help!

Leon County Schools starts August 15 - now is the time to contact the Principals!
